The global compendium of Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus occurrence
Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus are the main vectors transmitting dengue and chikungunya viruses. Despite being pathogens of global public health importance, knowledge of their vectors' global distribution remains patchy and sparse. A global geographic database of known occurrences of Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus between 1960 and 2014 was compiled. Herein we present the database, which compr...
متن کاملThe global distribution of the arbovirus vectors Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus
Dengue and chikungunya are increasing global public health concerns due to their rapid geographical spread and increasing disease burden. Knowledge of the contemporary distribution of their shared vectors, Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus remains incomplete and is complicated by an ongoing range expansion fuelled by increased global trade and travel. Mapping the global distribution of these v...
متن کاملRecords of Aedes albopictus, Ae. aegypti and Ae. triseriatus from the U.S. Air Force ovitrapping program--1989.
During 1989, ovitrapping was conducted by 36 U.S. Air Force bases, Ft. Sam Houston, TX, and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. Eleven organizations were positive for Aedes albopictus; the collection of Ae. albopictus at Arnold Air Force Base, TN, is a new record for Coffee County. Ten organizations were positive for Ae. aegypti; 18 were positive for Ae. triseriatus.
متن کاملPyrethroid and organophosphate resistance in Ae. aegypti
In the Caribbean, insecticide resistance is widely developed in Aedes aegypti and represents a serious obstacle for dengue vector control. The efficacy of pyrethroid and organophosphate ultra-low volume space sprays was investigated in Martinique where Ae. aegypti has been shown to be resistant to conventional insecticides. In the laboratory, a wild-field caught population showed high levels of...
متن کاملWinter Refuge for Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus Mosquitoes in Hanoi during Winter
Dengue occurs throughout the year in Hanoi, Vietnam, despite winter low temperatures <10°C. During July 2010 to March 2012, we surveyed monthly for Aedes larvae and pupae in 120 houses in 8 Hanoi districts. Aedes albopictus preferred discarded containers in summer and pupal density drastically decreased in winter. Aedes aegypti preferred concrete tanks and this preference increased in winter. E...
